The goal is learn the principles of personal water survival and basic rescue skills. The child will demonstrate proficiency in sculling, underwater skills, and the use of Personal Floatation Device. The child will be encouraged to achieve 50 metres of continuous swim.
Skill 1 - Entries & Exits
Your child perform a stride or straddle entry.
Skill 2 - Sculling & Body Orientation
Your child demonstrate sculling in a horizontal position for 10 seconds with arms only.
Your child demonstrate the ability to change direction on command.
Your child can demonstrate reverse action
Skill 3 - Underwater skills
Your child can get in chest deep water, swim through hoops on pool bottom 2 metres apart.
Skill 4 - Movement/Swimming/Strokes
Your child can swim 50m continuously
• 25m using either Breaststroke or Front- Crawl
• 25m using either Backstroke or Survival Backstroke
Skill 5: Survival & Activity skills
Your child swim wearing clothing for 25m
• Demonstrate ability to correctly fit a PFD in the water.
Skill 6: Rescue skills
Your child throw a flotation aid to a partner at 3m distance and instruct to kick to the edge.
• Perform a reach rescue using a rigid aid and pull a partner to safety
